Professional Background

Kishu holds an MBA from the University of Leicester and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. Before joining Chevron, he worked for Coca Cola for 11 years holding a variety of key management positions and has had foreign training and regular country assignment exposure.

Current Role

Kishu is the CEO/Managing Director of Chevron Lubricants Lanka Plc, a leading blue-chip in the country with 49% public shareholding and Managing Director of Chevron Ceylon Limited, a fully owned Chevron company. Under Kishu’s leadership the company made successful market entry into Bangladesh and overlooks Chevron Lubricants operations in the Maldives as well.

Kishu is a Leadership Team member of the Asia Pacific Lubricants Team & an Extended Leadership Team member of the Global Lubricant operation and plays an active role in making strategic business decision.

Performance Track Record

Kishu started his career at Coca-Cola and worked his way up the ladder holding a variety of key Sales and Marketing positions including two country assignments in Singapore and Vietnam. Positions held included Public Relations & Event Management, Product line & Brand Management, Corporate Affairs and Sales & Distribution Management etc.

Having made a significant contribution to make Coca-CoIa the market leader from an industry underdog position, Kishu joined a team of expatriates at Chevron and revolutionized the production oriented state owned Lubricant business to transform it to be one of the most admired & profitable blue-chip companies in Sri-Lanka. He was appointed the CEO/Managing Director at the age of 35 years to become the youngest to head two truly Multinational operations in Sri-Lanka. He succeeded the expatriates to become the first Sri-Lankan CEO/Managing Director. Chevron corporation is one of the largest energy companies in the world based in United States of America, and operates its businesses in all continents across the world.

As a Corporate Leader

Away from Chevron, Kishu is a past President of American Chamber of Commerce and served on its board as a Director for over 5 years. Under his leadership AMCHAM recorded the best financial results in year 2003. Kishu was the Senior Vice Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK – Sri Lanka Regional Branch and served on the Advertising & Promotional Committee of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Sri Lanka as a representative of CIM.

He is also on the Advisory Board of the International Music Foundation assisting Sri Lankan youth improve their talents and skills in the field of Art and Culture. He was the Vice-Patron of Institute of Automotive Engineers, Sri Lanka for several years. Kishu also sits on the boards of Cine Star Foundation and Outstanding Song Creators Association (OSCA), the only two organizations dedicated to ensure the rights and welfare of the Cinema and Music artists in Sri-Lanka. Kishu was the immediate Past Chairman of Lanka Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS and was a board member of AIDS Foundation of Sri-Lanka for several years.

Kishu has chaired the Judging panels of Effies Advertising Awards and Brand Excellence conducted by the Sri-Lanka Institute of Marketing and served on variety of other panels including Miss Sri-Lanka beauty pageants for Miss World. Most recently, he headed the ‘Platinum Awards 2016’ jury, known as OSCA’s of Sri-Lankan sports providing the leadership to an elite panel including 4 Olympians and other members who have excelled at the global level in their respective sporting arena.

Beginning of 2017, he was appointed to the Committee of Experts to formulate the National Sustainable Development Vision of Sri-Lanka – 2030 by the Presidential Secretariat on His Excellency the President’s direction.

Recognition & Rewards

Internally, Kishu has won the regional Gold award for best business performance in the Asia Pacific region and many other regional and global awards and accolades for unique achievements in different aspects of business.

Externally, he has received numerous awards for leadership, marketing and corporate management performance. They include;

  • Inaugural Best Young Director award by the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors in 2002
  • Most Outstanding Young Person in Sri-Lanka (TOYP) award for ‘Business accomplishments and Entrepreneurial Leadership’ by the Junior Chamber in 2003,
  • Winning the Best Business Leader of the Year 2004 award by CIMA Sri Lanka
  • Winning two Entrepreneur of the year Awards in 2007 at the Provincial and National level
  • Winning the Inaugural top three Marketers Award by CIM’s Sri Lanka Regional Branch in 2001
  • Was awarded the Most Outstanding Sri-Lankan Award 2017 by International Association of Lions Clubs for Advancement of Entrepreneurship & Business Management in May 2017

As a Speaker

He has addressed many National and International forums on various topics and had the unique opportunity of addressing the Global Marketing Forum -2006 in Bangkok. As a private sector business leader on the invitation by the government he has had the rare opportunity of addressing the Oil Exploration Technology Conference- 2007 in Texas, to promote Sri-Lanka’s Oil exploration opportunity, Commonwealth Youth Forum (CHOGM) – 2013 in Hambanthota and the World Conference on Youth 2014 in Colombo. Recently, he was invited by the USAID to speak to the senior management of the Sri-Lanka Parliament on leadership.

He shares his knowledge and experience with private & public sector organizations and private & public professional & educational institutes with the intention of making the Sri-Lankan workforce a competitive outfit to help gain economic independence for the country.

Away from formal work

Kishu has many talents and interests. He was the National 110 meter Hurdles National Schools Champion and Colombo district champion for 4 consecutive years. As a man who strongly believes in Personal Branding, he sings as well and performs with professional singers on popular TV and radio shows. He is into modeling as a hobby on a very selective basis and occasionally walks on the ramp even today. He has his weekly column in the Sunday Observer titled Biz Talk by Kishu Gomes and contributes towards many other printed media to share his own perspectives with a revolutionary flavor to help the professionals and students.
